Man’s Superpower

Language .  Words . They are an ineffable part of our everyday life, yet we seldom give any thought to how we wield their power. From an evolutionary standpoint, our most recent common ancestor the CHLCA (short for Chimpanzee – Human Last Common Ancestor) gave up the protection being arboreal afforded them, to gain the precious tool of language as a way to communicate so they could present a more effective collective front against predators. I think nature has bestowed upon us this bounty honed over more than 5 million years of evolution to achieve great feats. There exists little in this world that holds more power than that possessed by words. Though most of us choose to focus on their ability to inflict the deepest of wounds; we must also remember that they possess the capacity to be a balm on a bruised heart, bridge the widest of chasms between two people, even spur nations into revolutions. This is why I enjoy reading; words can conjure the most picturesque of imagery, open...

Christmas Eve is here!

Image
What is Christmas? Over the years, Christmas has been celebrated as a season of Joy and Happiness all around the World. I am going to highlight, the actual meaning of Christmas, and provide an account of how the Birth of Jesus took place.  Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. For those of you new to the religion, Jesus is the son of God, making him 100% God and 100% human. Thus said, it is birth of a God, why choose this planet full of sin? It is because he came here as a sacrifice for your and my transgressions. Yes, God sent his son to die, for you and me. We can discuss the life of Jesus in any later post, however this is the gist, Bible does not provide any account that December 25 is the exact date Jesus was born, thus making Christmas an occasion to remember God's eternal sacrifice for you and me. Here are clarifications to two very common misconceptions regarding Christmas: Christmas is for all of us, there is no line that Christ came for ...

We are His sheep!

There are some words which we seek during pain and suffering as well as during good times. One such portion I have come across in my life is from the 23rd psalm of the Book of Psalms, generally known in English by its first verse, in the King James Version, " The Lord is my Shepherd ". Like all psalms, Psalm 23 was used in worship by the ancient Hebrews. The writer describes God as his shepherd, in the role of protector and provider. Like all psalms, Psalm 23 was used in worship by the ancient Hebrews. The writer describes God as his shepherd, in the role of protector and provider . Here is an overview of the Psalm, following which we have a verse by verse analysis of this poem: Psalm 23 1 A song of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  2 He causes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.  3 He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.   4 Even when I walk in the valley of ...

An Alliance in Devotion

Friendship. It's just a simple disyllabic word, but holds a world of different meanings to different people. I don't know enough words to describe the depth of the bond that this ten letter word holds, nor will I probably ever learn. But what I do know is that despite the various versions of it existence, every single version works! When you think about it, it seems so amazing. But isn't it obvious too? I mean friendship is probably one of the few things that you can never define but at the same time, every definition is true. I admit I don't have the best luck with people, but there is nothing more amazing than seeing a smile on a familiar face after a long day. Nothing comes close to the sense of pride you feel when you realize someone sought you after a long day. So complicated but so simple. It's always all or nothing in friendship, isn't it? There are no half measures in friendship. Either they're there for you or they aren't in your life. It'...

Power of Hope

Some speeches are legendary, but here is one that can lead you through the toughest lows in your life.

Sacrifices : The unbiased effect of Mind

Sacrifice is defined by Google Dictionary as, "to give up (something valued) for the sake of other considerations". Often in our day to day lives, we come across various sacrifices. Some people might agree that they live a life of sacrifice, some may not. Believe it not, sacrifice is an essence of how prioritize various aspects of life. Sacrifice, is the key decision which is an unbiased marker of how the mind of the person who commits the sacrifices prioritizes the actions. I hope to keep the technicality in this post to minimal. Why not give it a technical aspect. Let us define sacrifice as a function, S(x|y) as the sacrifice of y to do x , i.e. you prioritize the event/emotion/action x over the emotion y . There shall be many cases, where you study people try to understand them. You can judge them by their actions, however there is a chance that your judgement will be biased by what you think regarding the action, or how you perceive the action. I will give you an ...

Ego : Best friend and Worst enemy

Image
Ego ( अहंकार) is defined by psychoanalysis as, " the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity" and that would be a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance in layman's terms. In this article, Zionax (our lead character) learns a few facts about ego. Its the extreme self-centered nature of people which we simply call "ego". An egoistic attitude - Two and a Half Men Why does it exist? Esteem, Pride and Dignity go hand in hand and ultimately create the shady definition of all the three together as Ego. If you ever ask yourself what you are proud of, you will get the cause of your ego. There is nothing wrong in being proud of something. When you are proud of anything you portray your character, by deciding what matters to take pride in. It is an encoded representation of who you are. What I mean to convey is, you can be proud of many thin...
