Zionax Diaries - Part II
Cortisol, Testosterone & Adrenaline
That is the holy 3 of hormones, and that is exactly what caused a chill go up in the spine of Zionax. He had seeked an ideal opportunity to impress his crush; from the perspective of the horny teenager, it was a golden opportunity. The jackass pulled out of the class astonishing the tutor, Abis followed as he got a peek at the text and knew that his buddy was incapable of handling it alone. Other teens were probably too engrossed to notice, the final act of the duo. Abis and Zionax, literally meant A-Z of friendship to the whole school, however 'Z' doesn't signify the end, sometimes destiny likes to signify beginning as the end.
The evening was still breezy, evening dew had started to form, wetting every smooth surface you can think of, the scooter seat on which Zionax landed as he anxiously waited for Yvette to pick up the call. It was apparent that the call was not going to connect, but then a loud music in complete distortion blared out of the speaker phone. Deep inside the frequencies, there was the cry for help. A cry for mercy, it was her voice. The guys knew, the locality had a bad reputation when it came to illegitimate activities, atrocious acts involving women and young girls had been reported again and again. Connecting the dots to get a picture is fun only on paper, real dots connect to create monsters. Zion and Abis had connected their clues to transform the anguish and anxiety to an unfathomable well of grumbling fear. A well, so deep that chances of escaping it is scarce as a scarecrow in an urban area. Zion had the heroism to tackle the problem, he decided that they will rescue the young woman.
At the moment, there was one thing both of them had accepted, they would not give up on her. In the midst of the conundrum, where were Yvette and Zephyrus? There was music, Zion had heard them head right, and for the outlaws to party, was to openly invite the police, hence the best guess was a wedding reception. The area had mainly 2 reception halls, so checking them out was easy. Again, the problem at hand was which one to choose, as they lay in opposite directions, and the risk associated with choosing the wrong hall was too much to commit an error. Fluke is the most common fish in a river, so when you fish, you will probably catch a fluke by fluke. Similar to this, who knows the halls better than the person who needs to be at both, the peddler. Yukewa was notorious for peddlers intruding into receptions to have food. Abis had the temperament to enquire of the stinky maniac which hall hosted an event that night. Turns out, the one was a bit far, but the scooter would make that distance small for one, and too large for another of the duo within the next few minutes.
Nyx had favoured the duo, the moon light was enough to navigate through the narrow lane by the deep ditch. Abis drove the scooter at a pace Zion had never seen Abis drive before, though he did not need to deal with the problem, he had shown genuine interest in helping. Thoughts of pretty Yvette had passed the minds of both young chaps, deep down these wannabe heroes were praying that they can make it happen. Between all this commotion, an electric scooter had started carrying an aged man, he was probably too aged to drive, hence it would suffice to say that the Yo-bike drove him.
Loads of curses were heaped on Zephyrus as they sped past many sharp turns. In the distance, they could see the figure of a woman running at them, the first reaction when you see a woman running right at you in middle of a road, at night is spooky. These young lads were spooked, but as they went closer they could see that it was Yvette making a run, and Abis had to brake to save the woman. Just when it seemed that they had saved the woman, a multitude of men behind her were seen running towards them. It was a roller coaster of emotions; spooked, relieved, tensed, and the ultimatum was surprise. A Yo-bike silently comes from the right lane suddenly shoving Yvette to the left, causing Abis to steer away while braking. The rubber tyres skid leaving burn marks on the road, but the momentum is too much to be slayed by friction, the steer away gives the torque and Zionax falls off the scooter tangentially rolls over, and stands up to find Yvette in his arms. Yeah, the guy had impressed her mate. To top it all, when he holds her safely in his arms, and looks above her shoulder he sees the gang flee away with horror, the Yo bike comes to a stop, Zephyrus is no where to be seen. However, a big thud is heard. Zion and Yvette realize what has happened, and they gaze down the ditch, only to look at the darkness that covered them from all directions.
Decisions taken under any circumstances, cannot be undone. We always face consequences. Abis had decided to selflessly help his friend, but he was no more to face the consequences. He was a star, burning to provide the nourishment, warmth, sustenance to the people around, selfless fellow. However, death of a star is also an interesting phenomenon, at the end of its life cycle, when a star explodes, it gives back everything it had in itself, this stardust is what makes up you me and everyone, we are star material. However, Abis's death in this context was he taught us to love, and care unconditionally. This changed the way Zionax dealt with life. If he had received anything till that point, was the unconditional support of his dearest buddy, which he could never repay. However till this day, he tries to make the world a better place by treading on the path Abis had taken, to burn beyond limit for the benefit of others.
Hours later, when the Fire and Rescue team arrives, the vehicle is recovered from the shore where it had come to an exhilarating stop hitting a big rock. It was apparent that Abis had probably drowned in the ditch, crying for help. Destiny is a bitch, the guy was there everytime his friends needed him but probably there were only flukes in the stream when he seeked help. Such is the proliferation of misfortune, when you require it the most, you seem to grope in the darkness of despair to find nothing.

Oh, about Yvette, she caved to Zionax at the moment, it looked like the hero had got the heroine. Zionax, also looked forward to the temperament Abis had, and understood that the thing Yvette had for him was not platonic, but emotional, a way to redeem herself, from the ugly truth that it was she who caused the accident. Zionax helped her get past the trauma and rebuild her life. They remain friends till date, their bond is close to A-Z of friendship but is A-Y. Zephyrus was wounded, and was attempted to be extorted by the gang of cruel bastards who had nothing but to eat, drink and commit crimes. He managed to identify the culprits behind the kidnapping of these lovebirds, bringing them to justice.
Abis was cremated the day after, 22-11-12. A new award on gallantry was introduced under his name in the school, an award competing with the cadre of the existing Student of The Year award.
